UPVC Door Repairs - Multipoint Lock & Mechanism Fixes

A UPVC door that won't lock is one of the most common calls we get, and it's rarely the whole door that's failed — it's usually one part inside it. A UPVC door locks in two stages: you lift the handle to throw the hooks and bolts, then turn the key to deadlock it. Once you know that, most faults are easy to place. Because we carry common parts, most repairs are done in a single same-day visit across Wrexham, Chester, Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

UPVC Problems We Fix

Handle lifts but the key won't lock it

If the handle lifts and the hooks throw but the key won't turn to lock, the gearbox — the centre case — has usually failed. It's the most common multipoint fault, and we replace it matched to your door's exact measurements.

Handle won't lift, or lifts stiffly

A stiff handle usually means the door is out of alignment, so the hooks aren't meeting the keeps cleanly. UPVC doors move with temperature and drop on their hinges over time. Realignment often cures it with no new parts.

Loose or floppy handle

Often the simplest fix — a worn handle spring or loose fixings. Sometimes it just needs tightening, sometimes a new handle set.

Key sticks or won't turn

If the handle lifts fine but the key is the problem, suspicion falls on the euro cylinder rather than the gearbox. We replace the cylinder, and it's the ideal moment to upgrade to anti-snap.

Door dropped and scraping the frame

A door catching on the frame or sill is misaligned, and left alone it wears the mechanism out faster. We realign and adjust so it closes and locks without force.

Snapped key or drilled barrel

We extract broken keys and replace euro cylinders the same day, upgrading to anti-snap where you want it.

UPVC Door Repairs FAQs

My handle lifts but the key won't turn — what's wrong?

That's the classic sign of a failed multipoint gearbox. The handle still throws the hooks, but the worn centre case won't let the key complete the locking action. It's a repair, not a new door.

Can you repair it or does the whole door need replacing?

Almost always a repair. The failed part is usually the gearbox, cylinder, handle or alignment — all replaceable or adjustable. Replacing the whole door for a lock fault is rarely necessary.

Will you have the part with you?

We stock common multipoint gearboxes, cylinders and handles, so most repairs are same-day. Occasionally an unusual mechanism has to be ordered in, and we'll tell you straight away.

Can you upgrade the security while you're at it?

Yes — a cylinder replacement is the perfect moment to fit an anti-snap, TS007 3-star cylinder for far better protection against lock snapping.
